Varanasi@Udaan India: Work on India’s first urban ropeway transport project in Varanasi has resumed after overcoming months of delays. The location of the Godowlia station has been shifted from the original site near the church to a point 20 meters before Chowk. This ropeway is expected to benefit around one lakh (100,000) residents. The travel time from Cantt to Godowlia will be reduced to just 16 minutes. The construction of the Girijaghar station is expected to be completed by next month.
Efforts to resolve the long-standing deadlock in India’s first urban ropeway transport project are showing progress. This project aims to provide ropeway transport to over one lakh people in Varanasi. The Varanasi Development Authority and the National Highways Logistics Management Limited have shifted the proposed location for the Godowlia station.
Initially, the ropeway station was planned to be built at Godowlia Chowk, but it has now been decided that the station will be constructed just past the church and 20 meters before Chowk. Previously, four entry and exit points were approved at the earlier location, but due to the change in location, the design has been modified. At the new site, only two entry-exit points will be constructed.
This project is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide a quick and modern transportation alternative for the people of Varanasi, especially those commuting between Cantt and Godowlia.
